District Panchayat Resource Centre, Barpeta

      District Panchayat Resource Centre (DPRC), Barpeta has been serving as a key institution for strengthening the capacities of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in the district since it’s inception. It has been providing various trainings, resources and technical supports to elected representatives and functionaries of the three-tier Panchayati Raj system. Located in Barpeta district of Assam, the DPRC plays a crucial role in enhancing local governance through skill development, awareness programs and dissemination of best practices. It acts as a hub for knowledge-sharing and planning, ensuring effective and participatory rural development in the region.

       The main objective of the District Panchayat Resource Centre (DPRC), Barpeta is to build the capacity and enhance the efficiency of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) for effective local governance and rural development. It aims to empower elected representatives and functionaries with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver good governance at the grassroots level.

Key Functions:

  1. Capacity Building & Training:

    • Conduct training programs for PRI members, officials, and other stakeholders.

    • Develop training modules and materials tailored to local governance needs.

  2. Resource Support:

    • Act as a repository of information, guidelines and best practices related to Panchayati Raj and rural development.

    • Provide technical and advisory support to PRIs.

  3. Awareness Generation:

    • Organize workshops, seminars and awareness campaigns on government schemes, roles and responsibilities of PRIs.

  4. Monitoring & Evaluation:

    • Monitor the implementation of rural development programs and PRI activities.

    • Facilitate feedback mechanisms to improve local governance.

  5. Facilitation of Planning Processes:

    • Assist in the preparation and implementation of Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDP).

    • Promote participatory planning and decision-making at the village level.

  6. Innovation and Knowledge Sharing:

    • Encourage and document innovative practices in rural governance.

    • Promote cross-learning among panchayats within the district.

The DPRC, Barpeta, thus serves as a vital institution for strengthening decentralized governance and promoting inclusive development at the grassroots level.

Event Highlights (If any) : On 29/07/2022, Administrative Building as well as Hostel Building of DPRC Barpeta were inaugurated by Sjt. Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Panchayat & Rural Development, Food & Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, General Administration and Judicial, Govt. of Assam in presence of Sjt. Munindra Sharma, IAS, Hon’ble Secretary to the Govt. Of Assam, Panchayat & Rural Dev. Department & Director, SIPRD, Assam and other dignitaries.
